Work Internship

One way to earn college credits is to obtain them because you have current employment.  This is called the work internship or work experience program.program.  It has some criteria.  It is run by the Career Services Department  (378-1465).

The "student friendly" aspect is that you do not have to attend classes (or buy books!) to obtain these credits as long as you are currently working, you can obtain transferable college credits for your current work hours.  You will need a faculty advisor.  I am more than willing to be the faculty adviser for any current or former student.  If you decide to sign up you can request me by name.

Below is some criteria from their website at Moorpark College (Career Services).  This is an excellent way to obtain college credits.

Types of Work Experience
  •  WEXP M10 - General Work Experience:  For work NOT related to your major or career goal.  Transferable to CSU, CR/NCR.  Up to 6 total units.
  • WEXP M20 - Occupational Work Experience:  For work RELATED to your major or career goal.  Transferable to CSU, graded.  Up to 16 units.
How are units computed?
You can receive 1 unit for 60 hours of unpaid or 75 hours of paid work. You may earn up to 4 units per semester and 16 units total. The units are graded and count towards your AA/AS degree and CSU transfer electives.

What are the eligibility requirements to do Work Experience?
  • Be in good academic standing (with a 2.0 or above).
  • Receive the approval of the Work Experience Office and a Faculty Advisor.
How do I register for Work Experience?
  • Determine how many hours you will be working during the semester, and divide that number by 60 (if un-paid), or 75 (if paid) to determine the number of units.  Be conservative, and round off to the lowest number of units.
  • Add class online.
  • Schedule and attend a Work Experience Orientation.  Call (805) 378-1536 or email mcwexp@vcccd.edu to schedule.
What are the student responsibilities?
  • Make an appointment for your one hour orientation.  Orientations are Tuesdays at 9am or Wednesdays at 5:30pm.
  • Develop 3 Learning Objectives, which are new or expanded goals for learning during your work experience.
  • Meet with your Faculty Advisor at least 2 times during the semester to discuss your progress and your final evaluation.
  • Your Faculty Advisor will assign you a paper or project.
  • Invite your Faculty Advisor to your Work Experience site one time during the semester.
  • Keep track of your Faculty Advisor consultations and site visits on the Consultation Record.
  • Have both your Faculty Advisor and your Work Experience Supervisor sign your Learning Objectives and your Time Sheet.  Have your Faculty Adivosr sign the Consultation Record.
  • Turn in your Learning Objectives, Time Sheet, Consultation Record, and Student Evaluation to the Work Experience Office at the end of your internship.  All fomrs must be received in order to receive a grade.
Please fill out the Work Experience/Internship Contract  before attending an orientation.
note: unfortunately you cannot click onto the contract (above)  from my page...it is formatted in adobe...go to Moorpark College's website and click onto Student Services and pull up the actual webpage where this was copied
