This icon may be inserted into a document after it has been validated by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Markup Validation Service. It signifies that the document conforms to W3C Recommendations and other standards.

W3C operations are jointly administered by the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) in the USA, the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) headquartered in France, and Keio University in Japan.

The icon contains the W3C logo and a checkmark. It also contains the name of the specific HTML or XHTML version to which the containing Web page conforms.
