Introduction
The disciplines list actually comprises two sub-lists. The first (on the left in the table below) is a list of disciplines that require the instructor to possess a master's degree in the discipline or a closely related field. The second (on the right in the table below) is a list of disciplines in which a master's degree is not generally expected or available. If a course outline author believes that a course should only be taught by an instructor that has a master's degree, then the author should only select disciplines that appear in the first sub-list.
This web page does not describe each discipline, or the minimum qualifications that an instructor must possess in order to teach courses designated for that discipline. For detailed information, please visit the Minimum Qualifications document on the California Statewide Academic Senate website. This list is based on the March 2003 version of the Minimum Qualifications document.
