Departments can expedite the approval of their courses by ensuring that a knowledgeable representative attends the meeting. In some cases, the department's curriculum committee representative can serve in this capacity, if he/she is familiar with the discipline that desires to present course(s). In other cases (notably in the business, social sciences, and natural sciences departments), the disciplines within the department have such a broad range that the department representative may be unable to answer specific questions that may arise concerning a given course. If a question cannot be answered during the meeting, it may well cause the committee to table approval of a course until a later meeting, significantly delaying the approval process. Division deans are encouraged to attend all curriculum committee meetings. Return to previous page
